Chalk pastels are easily smudged and have to be fixed immidiately or put under glass in order to protect the painting. I've only ever used poly or spray on sealer. Chalk paint promises that you'll never need to sand or prime your projects, but sometimes that's simply not true. But i've used a matte poly sealer on a coffee table to guard the surface better.
